One of my goals for creating HER was to bring young women together in a place where they could begin to know themselves, respect their own opinions and those of their peers, and create a roadmap for their lives. And that is exactly what we are doing!
This summer, HER worked with 25 young women as part of our Employment Empowerment and Sexual Wellness workshops.
The Employment Empowerment workshops were especially popular. After all, we all want a job, especially one that pays at least minimum wage. For the final workshop, peers who participated for all 8 weeks were professionally styled thanks to our community partners: Violet Boutique, Trim Hair Salon, Le Bustiere and Hard Candy Cosmetics.
Of the 19 peers that joined us for the employment workshops, eight sat down one-on-one with HER to create professional resumes, six participated in mock interviews, and six got jobs!
This is an amazing start. But there is much more to be done and we need your support.
HER has been selected to be a part of Revlon’s LOVE IS ON Million Dollar Challenge. The top five highest fundraising organizations by October 26 win between $25,000-$1,000,000 extra dollars.
Working with the peers at HER is a privilege and a responsibility, one that we take very seriously. Young lives are at stake and each peer is depending on us to help them navigate life’s challenges: finding safe housing, getting jobs, going to school and avoiding pitfalls that might plague them for years to come.
